Free cabs for veterans
HEROES who fought for their country will be offered free cab rides during next month's Veterans' Day celebrations.
The generous pledge has been put out ahead of the national event on Friday June 27.
Blackpool wins national honour
Blackpool will be the focus for the country's celebrations for the proud day, which will be commemorated by nine days of events from June 21 to 29.
The day had sparked controversy with some groups saying they would boycott the event over concerns surrounding poor parking and transport links to the hub of the celebrations at North Pier.

Cabbies in Blackpool have come to the rescue offering veterans and their companions free travel from their hotel to venue and back.
Taxi driver Howard Barrett said: "This is just a small thank you to the veterans of our armed forces from the hackney cab drivers of Blackpool.

"We feel these people are true heroes and will never forget the sacrifices and service they have given to our country."
John Black, secretary of the Blackpool branch of the National Service Veterans Association said the drivers' generous offer would be a great help to veterans.
Mr Black, who has previously raised concerns around transport issues at the event, said: "I think it's a really nice gesture by the cabbies.
"Getting straight to the venue without having the trouble of parking will be a great help to many of the veterans coming into town."
Participating vehicles will be displaying a sign indicating free travel for veterans.
Signs for drivers will be available for to collect from the licensing office on Rigby Road nearer the time.
Anyone who can produce a veteran's badge will be offered a free journey by cabs carrying the sign.
Jane Seddon, Director of Tourism, said: "This is a fantastic gesture from taxi drivers and one I'm sure will be appreciated by veterans and their families.
"We are looking forward to welcoming thousands of veterans to Blackpool and it's good to see local people and businesses going the extra mile."
Free parking and a shuttle bus service will be available on the day.
