Flying the flag for diversity
The Rainbow flag is being flown from the top of Blackpool Tower during February
DIVERSITY is being celebrated in Blackpool this month.
Rainbow flags – the universal symbol of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans’ equality) – are being flown from the top of the Tower and the town hall.
Coun Sarah Riding, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for equality and diversity, said: “We’re flying the flag as a symbol of our solidarity with and support for the LGBT community and to honour the struggle many courageous people from these communities have faced to gain equality.

“The month is also an opportunity to learn more about the ongoing challenges LGB and T people face in the struggle for equality.”
February 1 also saw a display of rainbow coloured lights decorating the top of the Tower.
Other events this month include an exhibition at the council’s Customer First centre on Corporation Street.

In addition, two LGBT films will be shown at Blackpool Central Library on Wednesday February 15 and Wednesday February 29 at 6pm.
