Fire crews tackle garage blaze

FIREFIGHTERS spent hours tackling a blaze at a Fylde car centre.

Four crews from St Annes, Lytham, Wesham, as well as an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool, were called to the fire at M Con Technologies on Hillock Lane in Warton.

It took firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, two hours to put the blaze out which broke out at the exhaust test centre just before 12pm today.

Staff members were evacuated as firefighters battled to bring the fire in the single storey building under control and stop it from spreading to the roof area.

Watch manager Steven Arnold, from St Annes fire station, said: "It was quite a severe fire in a factory that tests engines and exhausts for companies.

"They were testing an engine in one of the test bays and an exhaust ignited. The firm did really well getting everyone out of the building.

"We managed to stop it going into the roof and we were there this afternoon doing fire investigation and making sure it was properly out."

The test room was completely destroyed by fire, there was moderate smoke damage to the remainder of the ground floor and roof void area and fire damage to the mains electrical supply wiring.
