Police roadblock at the junction of Mythop Road and Chain Lane after a fatal accident on the section between Chain Lane and Preston New Road. PIC BY ROB LOCK 9-9-2012

A COUPLE killed in a head-on smash with a tractor have been named.

Patrick Cresswell, 46, and his 25-year-old partner Suzanne Smith, died after the Honda motorcycle they were riding collided with the tractor on Mythop Road yesterday afternoon.

The couple, who lived in Marton, Blackpool, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were called to the crash, in Staining, shortly before 4pm, and officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A second motorbike, a Suzuki GSX750, was riding in convoy with the Honda at the time but was not involved in the collision.

The tractor driver escaped uninjured but police said he was “shocked” by the accident.

Sgt Malcolm Bell, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision itself or who saw these two bikes in the lead up to the collision to get in touch”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
