Fabio backs bid for better health

A NEW major scheme to improve the health of Blackpool has got the seal of approval from a major voice in football.

Altogether Now – A Legacy for Blackpool has received the thumbs-up from England manager Fabio Capello.

The aim of the project is to tackle four Tangerine Targets: physical activity, lifestyle, childhood health and mental health and well-being.

Blackpool has a poor health record on smoking, alcohol, obesity and cancer.

Mr Capello gave his backing to the campaign – which involves Blackpool FC – when he visited Bloomfield Road to see the Seasiders in action in their first home game. He spent time talking to Pool legend Jimmy Armfield, an ambassadors for the scheme.

Roy Fisher, chairman of NHS Blackpool, said: "Everyone who has worked hard on this ground-breaking health programme was delighted to see Fabio Capello showing his support and being pictured proudly sporting his 'Altogether Now' rosette."
