EXCLUSIVE: Blackpool's Talbot Gateway plans released
BLACKPOOL is booming!
Visitor numbers have soared to 12 million – a hike of two million in just 12 months.
And the figures were released today as the first glimpse of the 220m Talbot Gateway scheme – which will transform one of the town centre's
most rundown areas – was unveiled.
Glass-fronted office blocks, piazzas, hotels, restaurants and shops will all transform the area around Blackpool North Station.
New council offices will be one ofthe first elements to be built, along
with a newroad layout, a supermarket and public square.
The Northwest Development Agency has agreed to pump 20m of funding into the scheme, which will lever in the 200m of private finance
needed to build the full scheme.
Work is expected to start in 2011 and be completed by 2021.

It will bring 3,000 jobs to the town centre and will also include three
hotels boasting 460 rooms between them, retail space, offices, restaurants and car parking.
The plans are a further boost for Blackpool, which has seen extra tourists flooding in in their millions.
Ten million had visited by the end of August with the bumper lights
season and events set to push that total up by another 20 per cent.
And now council bosses have vowed to build on the boom with the
Talbot Gateway plans.
