Elton John to play massive Blackpool concert
ELTON John - the world’s most flamboyant showman - will play a massive live concert on Blackpool’s Golden Mile this summer.
The “Rocket Man” today confirmed he will be the first act to grace the resort’s new Tower Festival Headland, on Saturday, June 16.
Sir Elton told The Gazette: “I’ve played more than 3,000 concerts – but I haven’t performed in Blackpool for 30 years.
“I’m looking forward to revisiting this legendary seaside town and playing on the Golden Mile, right near Blackpool Tower. See you in June!”

The last time Sir Elton took to the stage was in November 1982 when he played two nights at the Opera House.
Tickets for his 2012 return - which is set to be a 10,000 sell out - will go on sale on Friday at 9am (click here for more ticket details).
The gig, which will feature Sir Elton’s full band, is a major coup for Blackpool Council’s marketing firm Marketing Blackpool which is working with London-based promoter Marshall Arts.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 01:31 PMHaving Sir Elton John performing at the Tower Headlands is something Blackpool should be proud of. The likes of Elton, Paul Mc Cartney, Rod Stewart, are performers who have stood the test of time. I saw Stevie Wonder at the 02 in London a few years back, lets get Stevie to Blackpool this is a man who deserves the use of the title world class!

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 12:02 PMAt last the Headland will be tested and good luck to all involved with this concert. Sir Elton still has his popularity regardless of the weird opinions of some posters. Having a three year residency at the Colosseum, Caesar's Palace, Vegas and touring the world we are lucky to have secured one of the seven UK tour dates, eight if you included the gig with Sir Paul at Buckingham Palace on June 4th for Queen and guests. This event is not a freebie for the locals but designed to bring a wealthier audience to Blackpool and hopefully some will stay and spend. Headland events will cause disruption but only time will tell if it is worth it.

It will be a chance to see if the Tower headland will work though I have my doubts. If the trams keep running I will eat my hat. Perhaps he might arrive on one and get stuck. He will be able to use his now card and save money.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 07:36 AM@54 - revenue seems more important to you than free opinions and "Jesus Christ" blesses your moaning and insults - pardon me? and you are missing the boat "Middle class wealthy people" are no jerks wasting money for you. and they like to moan the loudest especially when finding out that third class amusements and cheapness is all over the places.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 03:07 AM£75 isn't expensive these days - Elton will only get about £250,000 for a bit of plonking and wailing. Barely enough to pay his flower bill for a month. :) Though I'd pay £75 to avoid it personally.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 12:10 AM@58. I assume a seated concert will hold less than a standing event. I hope this will be a huge success for fans & Blackpool.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:59 PMI do have a question... The Tower headland has been built as a 20,000 capacity venue. If a star like Elton John is only deemed worthy to attract 10,000 people who is going to utilise the full capacity?....Apart from the illuminations switch on of course!

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:11 PMThis is excellent news for the town, ticket prices are very fair and we should all be celebrating the fact that we can start developing pride in our town once more. Well done tourism and whoever else was instrumental in bringing this together.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 07:37 PMRe: helipilot - Did you miss that day at school when they covered punctuation and spelling? Probably out scrumping or whatever you did post war. It's "where" not "were" and "of" not "uf". Is helipilot your own name? No, and Ray Le Otter isn't mine - it's a pseudonym you dolt. And to all those moaners pull your head out of your backsides - Elton John IS a star name no matter how well he can sing these days, and The Wanted are popular "with ver kidz" so you can't say that Marketing Blackpool or whatever they're called haven't made an effort. YES it'll be chaos on the roads - don't go out that night then.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 06:43 PMJesus Christ this place is still full of moaners! Don't you people realise that if you moan at everything no matter what it is, it actually means that your moaning is indicative of nothing and consequently should be ignored. Elton John= very expensive tickets means= Middle class wealthy people will attend 10, 000 of them. Exactly the cash cow audience that Blackpool never gets! Of course making sure you can drive to your bingo night without getting stuck in a 10 car queue at traffic lights is the real priority and one the organisers of this town should actually be prioritising. Clueless comments on here absolutely clueless, no wonder the council listen to nobody, most of the time they are hearing you bunch of clowns.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 06:41 PMThese prices are quite OK for ELTON, hes been about LONGER than most, and LIVE you will never see any artist who is just as good, NO MIMING, and he can sing live that sounds as good as he records, I saw him years ago in Birmingham at the NEC, and its the best concert Ive ever been to, In NOrway when he came last year the ticket price here was just about 200 quid, so you in Blackpool are LUCKY, and for once NO expences travelling to another town, and extra Hotel Bills to pay on top. Just buy the tickets, and enjoy this GREAT PERFORMER LIVE. I just hope tickets dont end up on E bay at 10 times the price. HAVE A GREAT CONCERT
