Eight crews tackle inferno at barn
EIGHT fire engines tackled a barn fire in Over Wyre. Crews were put on high alert due to asbestos in the roof of the building at Northwoods Farm, Eagland Hill, Preesall. One firefighter was contaminated with paraffin but there were no injuries. Police had to close a number of rural roads around the farm after flames broke out at about 6.20pm yesterday. Firefighters remained at the scene today damping down the remnants of the blaze.
Firework car blaze
A firework triggered a blaze which destroyed a garage and the car inside last night. Firefighters battled to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjoining end terraced house following the incident in Washington Avenue, Bispham.
Crew manager George Preston, of Blackpool fire station, said: “Quite a large firework landed in the garden, bounced and hit the back door to the garage which was open. The resulting explosion from the firework caused the damage.”
The occupants of the house only realised what had happened when smoke began infiltrating their home.
