Driver nearly twice the limit

A LABOURER was more than twice over the limit when he was seen swerving about the road without lights.

Darren Clarkson then told police: "I was not driving, but I admit being drunk."

Clarkson, 25, of Highfield Road, South Shore, admitted driving with excess alcohol without insurance, a licence or an MoT.

He was banned from the road for three years, fined 450 and ordered to pay the 15 victim's surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Erratically

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police saw Clarkson driving a Ford Fiesta erratically without lights on Highfield Road, on April 30 at 1.40am.

A breath test showed 78 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. He had a previous drink-driving conviction.

Mitch Sarangi, defending, said his client had made a stupid comment about not driving when he was stopped.

He said Clarkson could not find the car lights switch as he drove along.
