Drinking row led to attack
A MAN with an alcohol problem punched and kicked his stepfather after an argument about him drinking.
Darren Owen, 27, of Newby Place, Mereside, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour. He was sentenced to a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay 65 costs by Blackpool magistrates.
Claire Hilton, prosecuting, said on July 20 community police support officers saw Owen launch an apparently unprovoked attack on his stepfather who was sat in a BMW near the Saddle pub on Whitegate Drive.
The stepfather refused to make a complaint. John McLaren, defending, said his client had stopped drinking, but started again after someone attacked and injured him with a screwdriver.
When Owen's stepfather saw he had been drinking, words were exchanged and the defendant lashed out.
