Dream come true as slimmer meets star

SHE has battled the bulge and he fought mysterious forces around the universe – so meet the dream team!

Inspirational South Shore slimming champion Maggie Lloyd was all smiles as she got chance to rub shoulders with top sci-fi star John Barrowman at a glitzy awards ceremony.

Maggie, 44, area manager for Slimming World, dedicates her time to helping Fylde folk achieve their dream weight. But she lived a dream of her own when she got to hug the TV heart-throb.

The dashing, silver-tongued star, who appeared as Captain Jack in Dr Who and Torchwood as well as talent show I'll Do Anything, appeared at the annual Slimming World awards ceremony held at Birmingham's International Convention Centre.

The ceremony aims to celebrate the achievements of women who have lost the most weight throughout the year.

Helping to organise the sparkling bash paid dividends, however, when Maggie found herself face-to-face with the guest of honour.

The mum of one not only got to hug and pose for a photo with the star – he took the time to compliment Maggie's hard work with Blackpool's slimmers and described her as an inspiration.

Maggie said: "Meeting John was an amazing experience. I'm a huge fan and was really excited when I heard he was going to be there, but I never thought I'd get to meet him.

"He was so nice and really made time to speak to all the ladies. He made everybody feel special and seemed genuinely interested in hearing their stories.

"I couldn't believe he was even more gorgeous in real life, and I'll be treasuring our photograph together."

Maggie wasn't the only one to be handing out the compliments, as John took time to praise her.

He said: "Seeing people's dreams come true is an incredible thing and I've had the privilege of doing that through my TV career.

"Maggie is special because she is helping people to achieve their dreams every week.

"It really is a pleasure to meet her."

Maggie oversees the running of the 25 Slimming World groups in the Blackpool area and says meeting the star was the icing on the cake of a successful year for local slimmers.

She said: "It was a shame none of the ladies at the ceremony were from Blackpool, but they all did a wonderful job last year in losing weight."
