Date at circus will thank young hero
A DEVOTED mum-of-two has nominated her brave nine-year-old son for a Christmas treat.
Rosalind Pritchard, of Cornwall Avenue, North Shore, had to celebrate Christmas early for baby son Alfie, who suffers from cerebal palsy, fearing he might not make it to the festive period.
But Alfie is pulling through – and Rosalind says she could not do it without the help of her brave son, Ryan.
So The Gazette and Leisure Parcs have invited him to our special VIP day out at Blackpool Tower for deserving children.
Up to 20 youngsters will be given special invitations to have a magical day out on Saturday December 19 – and we want readers to nominate children for this fantastic treat. Each child will be able to bring one carer.
The day, called Mooky’s Christmas Dream, will not only give the children day passes to explore the Tower, but also family passes to Louis Tussauds Waxworks and tickets for Mooky Doolittle, The Tower’s pantomime.
Rosalind, 33, said: “Ryan really deserves a treat, he’s been absolutely wonderful since Alfie was born. He always helps me out getting Alfie to bed and whenever he’s in the same room, he will sit down and talk to him.
“If he needs feeding or medicine, Ryan will help with that too.”
Eight-month-old Alfie has cerebral palsy and brain damage and was admitted for six weeks to Brian House Hospice, where doctors had feared he would spend his last days during the final weekend in September.
But after staff rallied round to stage an early Christmas, complete with tree, presents and a dinner for 40 of Alfie’s family and friends, the youngster began to improve, and was allowed home earlier this month.
Rosalind added: “When I feel down, Ryan always makes me feel better. It will be lovely for him to have a special treat.”
Ryan’s dad Chris agreed that the day would let Ryan know how helpful he had been. He said: “Since Alfie was born I’ve been allowed compassionate leave from work at Royal Mail, who’ve been fantastic.
“This has allowed me to spend time with Alfie, as we just don’t know if he will be here for Christmas.
“But now we’ll be able to take Ryan on a special trip to show him how grateful we are and how much we love him.”
