Court hearing done by phone
A COURT case was conducted over the telephone after a defendant was unable to climb steps from the cells to the courtroom because of a plaster cast on his leg.
A court clerk at Blackpool Magistrates' Court had to telephone the cells and take a plea from defendant Steven Jarvis.
Jarvis, 24, of Langdale Road in Mereside, Blackpool, who injured his leg in a motorcycle accident, admitted breach of the peace.
He was bound over in the sum of 100 for 12 months by Blackpool magistrates.
The sentence of the court was written down and given to Jarvis in the cells.
Jim Mowbray, prosecuting said police were contacted by Jarvis's girlfriend, who said he had come home drunk and been verbally abusive to her at 12.25am yesterday.
Jarvis, who was in bed, became aggressive to police and refused to be handcuffed.
He struggled so much he had to be pepper-sprayed by an officer.
