China blasts ahead in Blackpool fireworks competition
THE final of the World Firework Championships went off with a bang.
Thousands of people flocked to Blackpool town centre to watch the spectacular finale.
Damp and windy weather meant a slightly shorter show, but spirits still soared as fireworks filled the sky.
The dizzying display, put on by World Fireworks Championships organisers Kimbolton Fireworks, ended four weeks of sensational shows as France, China, Ireland and Austria battled to be crowned the winners of the international competition.
But only one could claim victory, and this was China's year.
Cindy Cheung, of the Vulcan International factory, said: "We are delighted to have won this year's competition and are very proud of this achievement.
"It is very gratifying to know so many people in Blackpool enjoyed our display. We love Blackpool and will come back again."
Coun Maxine Callow, portfolio holder for regeneration and tourism said:"The World Fireworks Championships in Blackpool have been a fantastic success again this year."
