Charlene forensic probes wind up

FORENSIC teams investigating the murder of Charlene Downes were today set to end their probe at two Blackpool addresses.

Experts hunting for evidence to shed light on the disappearance of the 14-year-old have spent two days scouring a property on Hornby Road as well as the premises and the rear of Funny Boyz takeaway on Dickson Road.

Det Supt Paul Buschini said: "We are hoping to conclude the search today.

"We have taken samples but nothing significant has been found during these forensic examinations, but people have come forward this week who had not done so previously."

"We are convinced beyond all reasonable doubt Charlene was murdered."

Two men appeared in court yesterday in connection with her murder.

Iyad Albattikhi, a 28-year-old divorcee, of Dickson Road, Blackpool, is charged with murder.

Mohammed Raveshi, a 49-year-old bachelor of Hornby Road, Blackpool, is charged with assisting an offender.

Albattikhi's case was sent direct to the Crown Court to be heard on June 15.

Raveshi was charged with assisting in the disposal of a body and had his case adjourned to April 10 for committal to Preston Crown Court.

Both defendants were remanded in custody.

Det Supt Buschini said: "I hope Charlene's parents will come to terms with it, but that will not happen overnight."
