Caring Lisa is an inspiration

FLEETWOOD'S Supergirl has picked up a top award.

Lisa Anderton (pictured), 14, has a massive caring job looking after her poorly mother as well as her brother and sister.

But she still manages to get good results at school.

Now Lisa's work has been recognised by housing association Regenda who have named her their Young Person of the Year in the North West.

The Fleetwood Sports College pupil was chosen from hundreds of youngsters across the region.

Win Redhead, neighbourhood officer at Wyre Housing Association, nominated Lisa for the award.

She said: "Lisa acts as a carer for her mother who is often unable to get out of bed due to illness.

"She has a five-year-old sister and two-year-old brother and helps them to get dressed in the morning and gives them their breakfast.

"Lisa also ensures her sister gets to school on time. She helps around the house with cleaning and shopping etc.

"Despite all these pressures, she is achieving successes at school and her mum was recently very proud following her school results.

"Lisa says a treat for her is on the days when her mum is well enough to go out with them, which isn't very often.

"I think she is an inspiration."

Lisa, who lives on the West View estate, joined eight award finalists for a fun-filled evening of snow activities at the Chill Factor indoor ski centre in Manchester which was followed by the award ceremony and celebration meal.

All eight were nominated in recognition of the special contributions they make in their communities.

A Regenda spokeswoman added: "The judging panel had a difficult task this year, with such a high standard of nominations, but they finally determined that Lisa should be this year's very deserving winner.

"Judging criteria identified those young people who have made a special contribution in their community either by being caring, friendly, supportive, or making a difference within their community."

Regenda's neighbourhood renewal manager, Emily Mathias, who presented the award, said: "It is truly inspirational to hear of the amazing efforts these young people go to each day.

"It is through these young people we can reduce negative perceptions and stereotypes and promote these young people as positive role models within our neighbourhoods."
