Campaign stepped up to stop motorcycle deaths

A NEW police scheme is being launched to try to stop motorcyclists dying on the roads.

The awareness campaign entitled Reflections will run until the end of August and aims to get riders to think about safety while out on the road.

The main message for bikers is to enjoy their ride safely and responsibly or risk being prosecuted – while car drivers are being warned to look twice for motorcycles.

Chief Insp Jon Donnelly, of Lancashire Police, said: "It seems almost every weekend so far this year a motorcyclist has died on the county's roads.

"Not only is this such a tragic waste of life, we also witness the immense impact on the families and loved ones of the victims of these accidents.

"This campaign aims to get the message out to the small proportion of motorcyclists who ride irresponsibly.

"They will be targeted by the police and those who continue to risk their own and others' lives can expect to be caught and prosecuted."

Throughout the summer, messages will be placed on buses, in bars and clubs and at motorway service areas.
