Speed cameras area to be introduced on a speeding blackpost

Police are to set up a camera in a bid to catch reckless motorists in a notorious speeding hotspot.

Residents told the last meeting of the Heyhouses Police and Communities Together (PACT) forum that speeding was still an issue on St Thomas’ Road.

Police say a speed gun will now be used in the area to try and slow motorists down.

It will be manned by police and community volunteers under Lancashire Police’s Community Road Watch campaign, which sees the community work with officers who train volunteers to use cameras in problem areas.

Those caught on camera will be sent warning letters.

They could also receive a visit from a police officer and can be prosecuted in some cases.
