Cafe kitchen dubbed 'danger to health'
FIREFIGHTERS who visited a cafe after a leak found the kitchen so filthy they called in health chiefs.
Town hall officials raided The Golden Mile Cafe, in Mr T's amusements arcade on Blackpool Promenade, and discovered grease, food debris and dirt on the floors, walls and equipment, Blackpool magistrates heard.
Food was incorrectly stored and there was mould on a fridge seal while paint was rusty and flaking and tiles were cracked.
Cafe owner Eamon McGuire, 46, of Marple Close, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to seven offences of breaching food hygiene rules and was slammed by council chiefs for "putting people's health in danger".
Maguire had previously been warned about poor levels of cleanliness and had accepted a caution in April 2007 for similar offences.
Tim Coglan, head of trading standards at Blackpool Council, said: "Mr Maguire has been given every opportunity to comply with the law and I'm pleased the level of the fine reflects the seriousness of the offences.
"Keeping a kitchen clean is a basic food requirement and absolutely must be adhered to. Our team tops national enforcement statistics by taking a hard stance and immediate action in cases such as these.
"We're working hard to drive up the standards of cafes, restaurants and bars across the town and will continue to prosecute those who are breaking the law and putting people's health in danger."
The owner was fined 700, with 372 costs and ordered to pay the 15 victims' surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
