Booths' bid for wine 'Oscars'
LOCAL supermarket chain Booths is raising a glass after being shortlisted for two wine awards in an international competition.
The International Wine Challenge (IWC) Awards 2008 is the wine world's equivalent of the Oscars. Booths has been shortlisted for the North West England Regional Merchant of the Year and Supermarket of the Year categories.
Company wine buyer Sally Holloway said: "It's a great tribute to all the staff at Booths who work hard in the stores to ensure our wine offering is of the highest standard and that we are providing our customers with a good range of quality wines.
"Booths was assessed on its variety of wine, customer service, store layout, point of sale material, promotional material, marketing campaigns, online promotions and innovation.
"Wine is a long established passion for Booths, with three of the present operations board, including chairman Edwin Booth himself, having served as wine buyers for the company."
The North West Merchant of the Year award was open to supermarkets, agents, on-trade suppliers, mail order, on-line, independent and high street retailers.
In 2005 and 2006 Booths won the title of Regional Supermarket of the Year at the International Wine Challenge Awards.
