Blackpool waxworks revamp

BOSSES of new Tower operators Merlin today waxed lyrical about the transformation of one of Blackpool's biggest attractions.

And it is out with the old and in with the new for Louis Tussauds as it prepares for a multi-million pound makeover.

The Golden Mile tourism hotspot will go under the name of Madame Tussauds with models costing 150,000 a-piece taking centre stage.

It will be the 12th Madame Tussauds in the world carrying the iconic brand name following on from others in London, New York, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Amsterdam.

Current operators Leisure Parcs are move aside later this year as Merlin begins its transformation of The Tower and SeaLife Centre.

Work has already started on the new wax figures – although bosses are keeping their identities a closely guarded secret – and they will be based on top TV and movie stars.

But Merlin boss Iain Hawkins said the new-look for the attraction will include some of the old favourites from Louis Tussauds.

He said: "Tussauds will have a completely new look with new dolls and new attractions.

"Some of the models will be retained but anyone who has been to Louis Tussauds will see a huge difference.

"Leisure Parcs have had a very successful time in charge of the attraction and they have brought in may thousands of people. I would like to take it a step forward and like the other Madame Tussauds attractions, add an extra dimension to the experience.

"We have to bring in new models and these are already being worked on."
