Blackpool to star in Corrie plot

BLACKPOOL'S darker side will take a starring role in Coronation Street.

The cobbles will be coming to the seaside for a dramatic storyline, following the Barlow family's desperate search for their youngest member, Simon, after he goes missing.

The plot will be the first "missing child" plot after Street bosses were forced to cancel a baby snatching storyline three years ago because it was deemed too similar to the tragic kidnapping of Madeline

McCann.

The new plot centres on six-year-old Simon, played by Alex Bain, who is taken on holiday by his maternal grandfather, George Wilson, and his wife Eve.

A Coronation Street insider said: "When George takes Simon to Blackpool, it's for a fun family day out, as they love the town.

"But it goes wrong when Simon disappears, and spends a whole night alone.

The night becomes a bit scarier, and the crew are planning to create a scary atmosphere by showing revellers and back streets."

The previous storyline involved baby Freddie Peacock, who was to be snatched from his bedroom by family friend Casey Carswell, but a Coronation Street statement released at the time said the plot was cancelled because of "disturbing similarities" to the McCann case.

The source added: "This story is nothing like the last, Simon walks off of his own accord, near North Pier. It stretches over a few days, but there is a happy ending."

Filming is scheduled for late January.
