Blackpool's Time Lord exhibits up for grabs

DOCTOR Who fans could soon own a piece of science fiction history.

Blackpool's Doctor Who exhibition will close next Sunday – and Time Lord fanatics will be able to get their hands on the iconic sets.

From PVC rock faces used as backgrounds to posters, signs and even gravestones – a wide variety of collectors items are up for grabs.

David Boyle, manager of the Blackpool Doctor Who exhibition, said: "Anything of a remotely Dr Who nature is collectible as far as Dr Who fans are concerned so I expect the sale will go well.

"We have some PVC rock face, panelling, gravestones, jungle leaves, plinths and other TV-prop dressing items up for auction.

"There will also be photos up for sale and graphics panels from this exhibition and the other centres too.

"People have already been in sizing things up. It's a great chance to bag a little piece of TV history so I think it will be a busy event."

It was announced last week that BBC bosses have recalled the original artefacts.

The treasure trove of costumes and characters – including Cybermen, Daleks and the Doctor's clothes – will now be used as part of a touring exhibition for its other Doctor Who sites in Cardiff and London.

But on Sunday November 15 – a week after the museum closes its doors for the final time – there will be a sell off of graphics and various set dressings.

The Blackpool collection charts more than four decades of this famous BBC science fiction drama series, from its beginnings in the 1960s, to present day.

Many of the Doctor's famous enemies appear in all their glory, including the Cybermen, Daleks, the Yeti, Ice Warrior, Silurian and Davros.

Mr Boyle says fans have been devastated to hear of the museum's closure.

He added: "I have had children come in literally crying because we are having to close. The fan base for Dr Who is incredibly strong and people have travelled from all over the country to see the exhibit in the years we've been open.

"It's really sad this collection of items may never go on public display all together again."
