Blackpool house hit by lightning (gallery)
FIRE crews had to be called after a house in Blackpool was struck by lightning in the early hours today.
The drama unfolded at just after 4am when the whole of the Fylde coast was battered by torrential rain and storms.
Firefighters were called to the house on Cornwall Avenue, North Shore, where lightning had caused a fire in the roof space.
They used an aerial ladder platform and breathing apparatus to put out the flames.
A spokesman said no one was hurt.
And motorists were being urged to drive carefully this morning due to patches of flooding on the roads after the night's storms.
Part of the A583 near Kirkham was underwater and there was also flooding on Amounderness Way.
Residents spoke of many other roads - including Lawson Road, Marton - being underwater up to waist height at about 4am, but most of the flooding had cleared by this morning.
A police spokeswoman said: "There are a few areas still affected by flooding, so we are urging drivers to take care."
