Blackpool firm creates throne fit for a Queen
WHEN you need a setting fit for a queen, there is only one place to turn to.
Blackpool stepped in to deliver when the organisers of the Miss England beauty pageant wanted a crystal-encrusted throne for their crowning ceremony.
Marton-based furniture supplier Feblands, which specialises in exotic creations, was only too happy to take on the commission.
In five days, it designed and crafted the glitzy chair which was at the centre of proceedings as winner Rachel Christie clinched the title.
The 1,500 throne is hand-carved in mahogany with the arms shaped into lion heads, lacquered in white and silver and finished in real silver leaf.
The upholstery is made from white leather with crystal Swarovski buttons.
Tony Febland, managing director of Feblands on Ashworth Road, said: "I think they found out about us from our website where we showcase our thrones.
"People buy them as a resistance to the recession. However difficult things are, they want something in their homes which reminds them of the good times.
"It was great to be chosen to supply one to the Miss England competition and we were looking forward to seeing the winner adorn it. We have other thrones in our showroom, and each one is different."
Winner Miss Christie, 20, who is the niece of Linford Christie and herself an athlete, clinched the crown at the competition held on Monday at the Metropole Hilton Hotel in London and will now compete for the Miss World crown in Johannesburg in December.
