Blackpool fatal crash: Man named
A MAN has died after a car hit a lamp-post in Blackpool.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene outside the Squirrel Hotel, on Bispham Road, North Shore, at 6.05am today.
Officers said a Vauxhall Tigra had collided with a lamp-post.
The driver, today named as Gary Maddocks, 44, from the Thornton Cleveleys area, was taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at hospital.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Bispham Road was closed from Moore Park Avenue to Salmesbury Avenue as police cleared the scene.
