Blackpool dad woke up in cells

A FATHER to be fainted in a hospital delivery room and woke up to find himself in police custody.

Ryan Pollard collapsed unconscious after seeing medical staff insert a drip into girlfriend Rachel Jackson's arm.

But he should have been nowhere near her – by order of a court.

Pollard, 25, of Cookson Street, Blackpool, admitted breaching his bail when he appeared before Blackpool magistrates.

Peter Bardsley, prosecuting, said Pollard had been bailed on the condition he did not contact or communicate with Ms Jackson.

Last Thursday, at 1pm, police were called to the delivery suite at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Begged

Mr Bardsley said: "A nurse told police Pollard had just fainted during a check-up his girlfriend was having before the birth of their child."

Hugh Pond, defending, said Pollard's girlfriend thought she was in labour and went round to his home.

Mr Pond added: "She virtually begged him to take her to hospital because she had no-one else to go with.

"He took her there by bus, despite thinking she was in labour. In the delivery suite they put a drip in her arm. He came round to find a police officer standing over him."

Pollard was rebailed by Blackpool magistrates after they heard his girlfriend was due to give birth by Caesarean section today.
