Blackpool Airport may get a London flight
EFFORTS to reconnect Blackpool to London by air are gathering pace.
Swedish company Wings of Europe has visited the Fylde with a plan to get a new flight from the resort to Stansted off the ground.
Blackpool lost its connection in 2007 when Ryanair axed its Stansted service.
Wings of Europe is a specialist in developing regional routes with support from local communities and persuading investors to invest with it in the service.
Wings, which has also developed services in Denmark says it has a tried and tested formula, which has worked eight times before.
Managing director of the company, Daniel Langsten, spent the day speaking to business chiefs to discuss how the local business community on the Fylde coast can invest in and develop its own low fare airline to restore a direct link to London.
Mr Langsten said: "Lancashire has many similarities with the regions where we have previously assisted in the establishment of local airlines.
"It is time-consuming and expensive to get to the capital."

Mike Hardaker, corporate services director at Moore and Smalley Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, based next to the airport on the Skyways Commercial Campus, said: “We know from past experience that being able to connect directly to the capital has significant benefits, both in terms of Lancashire businesses being able to get to London in far shorter times and by putting the Fylde onto a better commercial footing with the rest of the UK.’’
