IT wasn’t lack of goals or refereeing howlers which saw Blackpool relegated from the Premier League - blame black magic.
That’s the claim of former Blackpool goalkeeper Richard Kingson’s wife, who has gone on TV claming she used her ‘evil powers to trouble his career’.
There was never a dull moment for the Ghanaian, who made 20 appearances for the Seasiders in 2010/11.
He was man of the match on his debut when injury to Matt Gilks saw him introduced from the bench, before howlers against Blackburn later in the year cost the Seasiders vital points.
Now his wife, Adelaide Tawiah, has said on a Nigerian television show his loss of form was down to a spell she cast on the star.
“I used my evil powers to trouble his career, I’ve been working on him spiritually to the point he could not perform in bed,” she said.
Kingston, who has been without a club since leaving Blackpool, responded by saying: “My wife is not a witch.”
He added, “I had a great time at Blackpool and I think I proved to those who had doubts that I am good for that level.
“It is just a shame that the club went down because it is a very good club, one that will remain very special to me.”
It’s been an eventful few days for Kingson who yesterday claimed to have been offered a $300,000 bribe to throw a game during the 2006 World Cup.
Glenn Bowley, chairman of the Blackpool Supporters Association, said: “There was never a dull moment when Richard Kingson turned out for us!
“He went from the sublime to ridiculous - some great saves one minute then some howlers the next. But judging by the majority of his performances in tangerine, I don’t doubt his wife put a curse on him!”
