Bikers revving up for Daniel

The riders will leave Lytham Windmill at 8am and ride in convoy the 164 miles to the Yorkshire coast, inspired by 24-year-old Daniel Scott, who has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.

The son of biker Brian Scott, of Fleetwood, Daniel was diagnosed with the rare genetic condition from birth, is not able to walk, talk, or feed himself and is totally dependent on round-the-clock care and support from former joiner Brian, and mum Lorraine, 58.

Brian is a keen member of the Northwest Motorcycle and Bikers group and last year teamed up with Simon Carter, sales manager at Honda Blackpool, to stage the Lytham to Whitby ride for the first time, raising more than £3,000 for the Tuberous Sclerosis Association in the process.

This year the duo is hopeful of beating the £4,000 barrier with more riders than ever expected to take part with each paying a £10 entry fee.

Brian said: “It means a lot to me, this does, all these bikers and volunteer marshalls, coming together, trying to raise as much money for TSA.

“Daniel is 24, can’t walk, can’t talk and can’t feed himself. He is totally dependent on me and his mother but he’s a very cheerful lad and not a bit of trouble. He’s had an operation for brain tumour and he has to have regular kidney scans. But up until now everything’s come back okay .

“We’re doing this ride to raise funds for the TSA because they have been such a support to us. Thank you to everyone involved in getting this together and special thanks to Blackpool Honda.”

Simon Carter, sales manager for Blackpool Honda, said: “It was our first year last year and we are hoping it will be even bigger and better this time. We are proud to do it for Daniel and his family and get something big going for the club in the process.”

Emma Damian-Grint, of the TSA, said: “Without the efforts of incredible fund-raisers like Simon, Brian and everyone taking part in the Coast to Coast Ride we would not be able to do what we do. A huge thank you to them for everything they are doing for us.”
