Balcony plunge girl loses fight for life

A FYLDE student seriously injured after she plunged 90ft from an apartment block in a Spanish holiday resort has died.

Grace Ford, 17, bravely fought for her life for 12 days after the terrible accident in Magaluf.

She was on the holiday isle of Majorca with friends to celebrate the end of her A-Levels.

Miss Ford, a keen athlete and horse rider, who lived with her parents in Greenhalgh, near Kirkham, was left in a critical condition after she broke both legs, an arm and her pelvis in the fall.

Her parents Christopher and Suzanne are currently at the hospital in Palma where Miss Ford is said to have died at 5pm yesterday.

Family friend Steve Hall said: "After 48 hours of fighting an infection that really took its toll on her.

"She was the most wonderful girl that we have lost. She was a brilliant scholar, outstanding horsewoman and a fine athlete.

"Everyone is going to miss her terribly.

"Grace has fought like a tiger, she has fought it as hard as anyone could."

Many tributes have been left by shocked friends on social networking website Facebook.

One simply said: "Just heard the news - I cannot believe it. Grace will never be forgotten."

Miss Ford is believed to have accompanied a fellow British holidaymaker back to the Torrenova apartment block in the Punta Ballena area where he was staying.

It was reported he helped her climb out of the window, which he thought led to another part of the apartment block.

Doctors spent around 90 minutes stabilising Miss Ford in the apartment block before she was put on a stretcher and taken to Son Dureta.

Although her condition was described as "critical" at first and she was in an induced coma, she had begun to improve.
