A FYLDE football star’s newborn baby son has been found dead at home.

Emergency services were called to a house in Preston where the six-week-old son of Fleetwood Town striker Richie Allen had died.

Police last night confirmed the death of Mr Allen’s son was being treated as “unexplained”.

The boy, who has not been named by police, was found by his mother in a bedroom at the house in Neston Street, Callon, just after 6am yesterday.

The ambulance service was called.

Police today confirmed inquiries were ongoing.

Mr Allen, 29 made his second debut for Conference high flyers Fleetwood on Saturday after being transferred from Fylde coast rivals AFC Fylde for a second stint at the port club.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police confirmed: “Officers were called by the ambulance service to an address on Neston Street in Preston at around 6.10am yesterday following the death of a six-week-old baby.

“Officers have made a number of inquiries and although we are yet to establish the cause of death, at this stage, detectives do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

“A post mortem has yet to have taken place and further inquiries will be carried out and a file prepared and passed to the coroner.”

Heartfelt messages of support were today offered by Mr Allen’s current and former club.

Fleetwood Town spokesman Derick Thomas said: “We were deeply saddened to hear this news and our thoughts are with Richie and his family.

“He will receive all the support from the club that he needs.”

Martin Booker, business development manager at AFC Fylde, said: “The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Richie and his family at this sad time.

“He only recently left us and we are really sorry to hear such tragic news.”
