At last big brother will watch over us!
CAMERAS are finally being fitted to a CCTV pole – six months after it was erected.
When Fleetwood's 125,000 CCTV system was unveiled in
Dec-ember, a pole was installed on Station Road, close to the Asda roundabout.
But no camera could be fitted because there was no power supply to the pole.
Wyre Council has now revealed a camera will finally be fitted, after Lancashire County Council agreed to arrange contractors to dig up the road and provide power.
A spokeswoman for the council said: "An initial survey revealed that installing the CCTV camera near the Asda roundabout would be much more complex than originally thought.
"An additional survey has been completed and a road closure will be necessary for the contractors to carry out the work.
"It is hoped this can start as soon as possible, after due consideration has been given to minimising the impact of these works on trade and traffic in the area."
Traffic will be diverted while the work to install the power cables is carried out.
The spokeswoman said: "We want to make sure everything is absolutely right before we begin."
Ivor Bould, chairman of Fleetwood Neighbourhood Watch, is furious the CCTV pole has been in place for so long without a camera.
He said: "Why, in the first place, put a camera there when you know there is no electricity feed?
"The whole system is taking too long, especially when you are promised 13 new state-of-the-art cameras by December 2008 and now we are in June 2009 and we are not even half-way there."
Wyre Council has said that four cameras, to complete the system, will be installed before the end of this financial year.
