Airport bosses hope to restore capital flights
BLACKPOOL Airport bosses have insisted they are doing all they can to reinstate a capital connection to the Fylde.
It comes as Eastern Airways increased its service from its Manchester to London Stansted this week to four times a day.
Ryanair shocked passengers at Blackpool International Airport after they pulled the daily service from the Squires Gate airport in May 2007.
Since then thousands of people have had to travel to Manchester to fly to the capital or go by train or road.
The Ryanair service was used by about 200,000 people during the time it ran from the resort.
Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways' chief operating officer, said: "Our enhanced services are tailored to meet the needs of north of England business commuters.
"We are offering greater choice of flights to Stansted enabling travellers to conduct important business away from the office without the need for an overnight stay."
Sue Kendrick, communications manager for Blackpool International, said: "We are trying to establish a new link.
"One of the key points we are making to airlines and operators is that there is no direct transport link to London from the Fylde.
"When you consider this service was used by more than 200,000 people for business and leisure you realise just why the resort needs such a link."
