FYLDE youngsters are now being coached by Premiership footballers.
Bolton Wanderers midfielder Gavin McCann has teamed up with ex-Everton and Blackpool star Jamie Milligan to launch the Fylde coast’s first football academy to offer coaching by a current Premiership player.
The academy, for eight to 12-year-olds, runs every Sunday at King Edward and Queen Mary School, St Annes, from 2pm until 4pm and is already proving popular.
McCann, who made 92 appearances for Aston Villa before joining Bolton in June 2007, comes from the Blackpool area and says he was keen to coach youngsters close to home.
He said: “Jamie and I scoured the area for the type of facilities that would befit a top-notch football academy and the KEQMS pitches and sports hall are perfect for both indoor and outdoor sessions.
“We’re delighted to have secured such an excellent venue.”
Colin Sneath, KEQMS marketing director , said: “We’re pleased that Gavin and Jamie rate our facilities highly and wish them well with their venture.”
