Lions' presentation goes swimmingly

This year's entrants in the annual Fleetwood and Cleveleys Lions' Swimarathon have handed over their cheques to good causes after a bumper year.

There were more teams in March’s event, held at Fleetwood YMCA pool, than in recent efforts and the total raised - around £3,500 - was also larger as well.

Organisers say it is all down to new rules brought in for this year, which allowed teams to donate half their sponsor money to a good cause of their choice, with the rest going to the main principal charity.

Stuart Gratrix, one of the main coordinators of the swimarathon, said after the Fleetwood Bowling Club presentation; “We brought in changes this year and we had more people taking part in the swim and more money raised. Our principal cause, Life After Stroke, did well too, with £1,500 raised, so it was a win-win.”
