Lifeboat crews called after man and children get into difficulty

Coastguard and lifeboat teams were called after a man and four children got into difficulty near Central Pier.

In the incident, which happened around 7.30pm, the five were in danger of being cut off by the tide.

A coastguard spokesman said: “A male and four children were at risk of being cut off.

“We launched Blackpool lifeboat crew and Lytham Coastguard to help.

“The police made the call to us, but by the time emergency crews arrived, the people had managed to get themselves ashore.”
