RUNNERS braved sweltering heat as they tackled a gruelling 10km beach course.

Hundreds of athletes and fun runners took to the sand opposite the Solaris Centre, South Shore, to start the race which took them along the beach all the way to St Annes.

The soaring weekend temperatures made the race a tough contest as the sun beat down on the Fylde coast route, but many runners finished the race with a smile on their face.
