Larkholme Primary school is celebrating after winning a trio of prestigious sporting awards.
For the second consecutive year, the school has won the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Award, for pupils’ participation levels in extra-curricular clubs and competitions.
The Windermere Avenue school has also been awarded the Youth Sports Trust Gold Quality Mark, which recognises the whole school ethos, quality of PE, sport and active learning.
And they are also joint winners of the Wyre Primary Sport School of 2016 with Sacred Heart Primary School, for the second year running.
Acting headteacher Anne Wolstenholme said: “We are so proud of all the staff and children, and in particular Miss Santamera, who have worked so hard to ensure the sport provision and participation in extra-curricular activities is the best that it can be.
“We are delighted to have won three awards and we are so pleased that our pupils develop such a love of sport, which enables them to be active, keep fit, work as team, set personal challenges and aim to be the best they can be.”
The Wyre award is run by Lancashire Sport, and as winners of the Wyre District Larkholme will be forwarded for the overall Lancashire award, to be announced at a ceremony on November 25.
To secure the award, the school submitted an application about their PE department detailing the range of clubs, competition and leadership opportunities.
The school offers a wide range of clubs from traditional sports such as netball, football, rounders and rugby to orienteering, yoga, wake and shake, table tennis, boccia, badminton and speedstacking.
The school also prides itself on a huge number of competitions, frequently entering teams to ensure children experience representing the school.
as often as possible.
