A PUB owner has organised a fun day fit for royalty to mark the sacrifices of our Armed Forces.

Around 100 veterans will enjoy food and entertainment from a jazz band at The Shovels in Marton as part of a celebration to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday June 5.

Stephen Norris, who has managed the pub for 16 years, said: “We would like to give something back to our local community and what better way than celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by giving something to those who have served for her in the defence of our country.”

The event will revive the spirit of street parties from previous Jubilee celebrations which Mr Norris feels were the “good old days”.

The pub will be decorated with bunting and balloons and there will also be a selection of military and non-military vehicles on display.

Julian Mineur, from Supporting our Brave, said: “What a wonderful gesture Steve and his team are providing for our veterans.”
