The Gazette - Justice for Jane Campaign
The Gazette has thrown its support behind two heartbroken families in their brave bid to prevent more women being brutally murdered by violent ex-partners.

The parents of Jane Clough launched the Justice for Jane campaign after the Blackpool nurse was stabbed to death by her sadistic ex Jonathan Vass.
The Gazette brought John and Penny Clough together with the family of Fleetwood mum Claire Atkinson.

Claire died when her ex-boyfriend Alan Entwistle stabbed her to death. Both killers were on bail when they carried out their sickening crimes.

The Cloughs are calling for changes to bail rules to give victims and the Crown Prosecution Service the opportunity to appeal judges’ decisions over releasing suspects.

Backing the Justice For Jane campaign, Gazette editor David Helliwell said: “It’s horrifying to think in one small part of England two families have been left devastated in the same manner.

“And with a simple change to the law, more families could be spared the pain they are going through.

“Both sets of parents have joined together to fight for a law change. Anyone who has read their heartbreaking story cannot fail to have been moved. We fully support the campaign and urge readers to back their calls for change.”
