JULIE Brindle has done everything she can to make sure her big day goes just how she wants – including losing more than 50lbs.
The 29-year-old, from Cleveleys, even bought her size 14 wedding dress last year, vowing she would fit into it by the time her special day arrived in May 2012.
Rather than leave it to the last minute to shed the pounds, the mother-of-two decided she would make sure she lost the weight with time to spare, setting herself up with good habits.
She said: “I had seen my dress in the shop and asked what size the dress came in.
“I was a size 18 to 20 at the time and she said the biggest they went up to was 14.
“So I decided to buy it and diet into it.
“It was a bit scary, but it was the dress I wanted and I was determined. It was a big incentive.
“I kept trying the dress along the way to see how I was going and it kept me motivated.
Care home worker Julie started attending Weight Watchers meetings in Cleveleys with her fiance Darren, on Wednesday nights, with consultant Lesley in April last year.
The pair soon began shifting the pounds and Julie reached her target on December 1.
She said: “Now I am maintaining.
“I’m 5ft 10ins and my goal was 12st 6lbs, so I lost more than 57lbs. It was easy to stick to as it’s quite a flexible plan.
“You can have everything in moderation.
“I tried other diets, including Weight Watchers before, but never stuck to it.
I think going to the meetings this time was important and helped.
“Now I am a size 12 to 14 and can wear size 12 jeans – it makes me feel great.
“I haven’t been a size 12 since I first went to high school.
“I feel I have much more energy and can keep up with the children, as Darren has two boys too.
“I’ve been married before and last time I was a bigger bride. I didn’t want to be this time.
“And I can’t wait to wear the dress!”
