A former Fylde schoolgirl who has gone on to work as a journalist for Channel Four News and the Daily Telegraph was guest of honour at her school’s presentation evening.

Jenny Rigby spoke to pupils at Hodgson Academy as she was guest of honour to present GCSE certificates to the outgoing Year 11 pupils.

Jenny, who was at the Moorland Road school from 1995 to 2000, now lives in London, working as acting digital editor of Channel Four News, and will next month start work on the Telegraph.

She said: “I didn’t always want to be a journalist, although, when I was at Hodgson, I loved English and other language classes.”

Jenny went on to study at Blackpool Sixth Form College and read English Literature at university in Bristol.

She told pupils: “You are beginning to be the boss of your own life. You are making choices now which will shape your future. That’s tremendously exciting.

“You’ve also proved to yourself you can work hard. Well done – it’s a massive achievement and you should be proud of yourselves.”
