A MAN has been jailed after he sexually assaulted a teenage boy by claiming he had to do a fitness test on him before offering him a job.
Preston Crown Court heard how George Stringer offered the youth a well-paid position at a gym he claimed to own if he undergo a test, which included a full body massage.
But a judge was told there was no such gym and it was all a sham.
Stringer, 44, appeared in court after admitting sexual assault.
Sending Stringer to prison, Judge Heather Lloyd told him: “This offence was planned.
“It was more than a momentary touching. It was a fully body massage for your own sexual gratification.”
Stringer had been a resident at a guest house in Blackpool town centre where the boy worked.
Charlotte Holland, prosecuting, said Stringer told the boy he part-owned a gym and he could get him a job there which paid £120 a week.
She added: “He told him he would have to do a fitness test which would involve sit ups and push ups and the defendant would touch his muscles.
“Considerable details were given about the gym, which didn’t exist.
“The boy said he would have to speak to a relative before changing jobs and going there.”
The relative went round to the guest house and the defendant span a web of lies about the gym.
Stringer went on to persuade the boy to undertake a “fitness test”. He asked him to do sit ups and press ups which the youngster did.
Miss Holland added: “The defendant ensured the boy had stripped down to his boxer shorts. He had indicated he thought it was ‘a bit weird’. The defendant said ‘you are getting paid for it’.”
He took the boy up to his room, claiming he needed to do further tests.
There he touched different parts of his body and gave the boy a £10 note. Stringer said if he had done a full fitness test, he would have been given £25, but no details were given about what that would have involved.
The court heard the boy told his relative what had happened and they were furious and challenged Stringer who claimed the boy had made it up.
Another boy then revealed he too had been offered a job at a gym and told he would have to take a fitness test. The police were called in.
At the time of the offence, Stringer was on a three years community order for threatening to kill his ex landlord. The court heard he had threatened to stab him through the heart or slit his throat.
Peter Horgan, defending, said his client had no previous convictions for sexual offences.
He added: “He requires assistance.
“The public requires that he has assistance to ensure in the future they and he are best protected.”
Stringer was jailed for a total of 21 months.
He will be on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years, subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and banned indefinitely from working with children.
