IT is the game which has split the Fylde coast and these souvenir scarves just go to prove it.

Football fans across the Fylde coast are preparing for this weekend’s ultimate derby between Fleetwood FC and Blackpool FC.

The Cod Army will take on the Seasiders in the third round of the FA Cup and commemorative gear is already spilling out of the club shop at the port’s Highbury Stadium.

Special edition scarves, shirts and a bumper match day programme are all on sale for enthusiasts – no matter where their loyalties rest.

Derick Thomas, of Fleetwood FC, said: “Micky Mellon and the playing staff are very much looking forward to the game. And behind the scenes the club is gearing up for a sell out crowd.

“The busy league campaign, which last saw a superb 6-0 away win at Southport FC, can be put aside.

“Now we can now concentrate on the FA cup third round against Blackpool and have some fun.”

And the definitive derby has caught the eye of the sporting world with Radio Five Live travelling to the town to report from pitch-side.

Mr Thomas added: “The match has certainly attracted attention from the media which is great exposure for the town.

“Radio Five Live will broadcast their Breakfast Show from the ground.

“They will be speaking to local supporters from Fleetwood and guests, we are really looking forward to it.

“It is a fantastic draw for the Fylde coast and for both clubs, supporters are relishing the fixture.”

The match will feature on ITV’s FA Cup Highlights Show on Saturday between 10.45pm and 12.15am.
