Police are appealing for help to identify a man who died suddenly after falling ill in Blackpool.

Police were called to Gynn Square at around 2am after receiving reports from the ambulance service that a man had fallen from a bench after becoming unwell.

He was taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but later died.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are now trying to trace anyone who may be able to identify the man.

He is described as having a large build and cropped greying hair, and is believed to be aged between 50-70 years. A key fob was recovered from his clothing with the name ‘Gary’ written on it.

Detective Inspector Bev Mason, of Blackpool CID, said: “We are trying to establish who this poor man is and I would appeal to anyone who can help us to contact us.

“He must have been staying locally because he had a key in his pocket.

“We’re appealing for anyone who has got someone matching his description who has not come home to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0099 of August 26.
