SO far between them, they’ve had a hamstring tear and a cracked rib, but Fylde ice king Dan Whiston and Dancing on Ice partner Jennifer Ellison have this week been injury free.
The pair have been plagued by problems in rehearsals since the show started three weeks ago, but have still managed to skate on and receive some quite respectable scores from the judges on the hit ITV1 show.
On Sunday, their performance to Beyonce’s ballad Listen earned them a score of 18 from the judges – no mean feat as former Brookside actress Jennifer was suffering from a cracked rib. The new mum sustained the injury in training, when practising a lift which involved her being spun on her side above Dan’s head.
Dan said: “I was really pleased with how Sunday went. Jen had been having a huge amount of physio treatment and she’s tough – she’s a true Northerner.
“She got some really positive comments from the judges. When I watched the performance back, she skated really well.
“I’ve said to Jen we have to focus, not on the competition to beat, but just on making improvements, getting a better score, doing a better routine each week.”
This Sunday will see a new twist – with the celebrities taking to the ice with another couple at the same time to go head-to-head in a ‘duel’.
Dan said: “We’re excited about it – I like anything new and different, which keeps it fresh and makes it interesting.
“It will be more challenging for the celebrities as it gives them more to think about.”
