A violent attack on a man as he walked through a Blackpool park has left the victim with a suspected broken jaw.
Police are investigating an assault in or near Kingscote Park, in Layton, during the early hours of Friday.
A 36-year-old man was yesterday in hospital following the attack, where his injuries were described as “significant”.
Detectives say the severity of the assault has left the victim with little memory of the incident, which is believed to have taken place around 2am.
The victim, who is from Blackpool, suffered two black eyes in the attack.
Police are now appealing for witnesses as they hunt one or more “unknown assailants”.
The investigation is still in its early stages and detectives are still working to determine how many people were involved in the attack.
Det Sgt Rik Irving, of Blackpool CID, said the attack must have been “very distressing” for the man.
He added: “We believe our victim has been walking through Kingscote Park from the Grange Park side, heading towards Caunce Street. He has then been attacked by an unknown assailant or assailants. He has got some reasonably significant injuries and does not remember much.
“Following the assault he has got facial injuries, two black eyes, and potentially a broken jaw.”
Police do not believe the victim was robbed during the attack. The victim was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where he was being treated yesterday.
Police are now appealing for information to help identify the person or people responsible.
Det Sgt Irving added: “We are interesting in speaking to anybody who may have seen or heard anything around that time.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
