The driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run collision with a young cyclist on Blackpool Promenade is being hunted by police.

The 12-year-old boy was cycling south along the seafront, which was packed with traffic for the Illuminations, when he was hit by a dark coloured BMW, police say.

We know that the Promenade was fairly busy due to the Illuminations being on so I would urge anyone that may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with us

The driver failed to stop at the scene, close to the junction with Wilton Parade, North Shore, and paramedics were called to treat the youngster who suffered head and knee injuries.

Police are now appealing for information to help track down the driver following the incident at around 8.40pm on Tuesday.

PC Mick Bristow, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Fortunately the young cyclist received only minor injuries as a result of the collision, but we are keen to trace the driver and anyone who witnessed what happened.

“We know that the Promenade was fairly busy due to the Illuminations being on so I would urge anyone that may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 1271 of September 8.
