PLANS for a massive expansion of a country house hotel look set to be scrapped after a much smaller extension was given the go-ahead.
Fylde councillors gave the green-light to Wrea Green hotel The Villa’s £2m plans to build two smaller function rooms at this week’s planning committee meeting.
The hotel’s original expansion plans were for a brand new 400 capacity function suite and 37 new bedrooms, but owner Simon Rigby decided to scale back the ambitious scheme following feedback from customers.
Now, instead of trying to make the hotel more contemporary under the original scheme, the new plans will retain The Villa’s “existing qualities”.
Development management committee chairman Coun Ben Aitken said: “It looks a much better plan and all the noise level safeguards should be in place.”
Residents objected to The Villa’s previous expansion plans amid concerns about the amount of noise which would be emitted from the function room.
The permanent extension will replace the hotel’s current function marquee, which will be retained until party way through the phased construction of the new extension.
